Long ago, we Americans threw off the oppressive yoke of monarchy and inequality--“All men are created equal.”
Or did we?
Built into our ceaseless striving is the hope that one day we will attain something better:
Celebrity, fame, riches, success, happiness.
I am all for hope.
But it must not be allowed to blind us to the beauty of today,
Of who and where we are right now.
Very few of us will become famous.
But all of us can become who we are meant to be:
A person who brings our special something to the world,
A person who is true to their deepest self,
Someone who refuses to let society’s expectations squeeze out of them
The joy in hearing the birds sing, the breeze on their cheek, a beloved smile.
Be extra-ordinary.
